Asahi Shuzo has been around since 1830. Originally, the company was known by the trade name "Kubota-ya.", but it wasn’t until much later in 1985 that the brand Kubota emerged (possibly as a way to differentiate from other well known breweries named ‘Ashai’). Today Kubota has established its position as one of Japan's major sake brands and the epitome of the Nigata style: dry, clean and crisp.
